HSN vs SAC Code – Difference Explained
HSN and SAC are classification codes for GST. HSN = goods, SAC = services.
HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature)
- For goods
- 4, 6, or 8 digits
- Example: 1006 (rice), 1905 (biscuits)
SAC (Services Accounting Code)
- For services
- 6 digits, usually start with 99
- Example: 998313 (rental of machinery), 998511 (support services)
On Invoice
- Goods invoice: HSN code
- Services invoice: SAC code
- Mixed: Both as applicable
