Udhar Kitna Dena Chahiye – Credit Limit for Kirana Customers
Last updated:
Giving udhar (credit) builds customer loyalty but carries risk. Here’s how to set limits.
Factors to Consider
- Customer history – Long-term, pays on time? Higher limit.
- Your cash flow – Don’t tie up too much in dues.
- Order size – Limit as % of typical purchase or fixed amount.
- Payment cycle – Weekly settlement? Monthly? Adjust limit.
Practical Limits
- New customers – Start small (₹500–2000). Increase after 3–6 months of timely payment.
- Regular customers – 1–2 weeks of average purchase. E.g., ₹200/day × 14 days = ₹2800.
- Wholesale/B2B – Based on credit period (7, 15, 30 days) and order value.
Rules to Follow
- Write it down – Use a udhar ledger or app.
- Remind before due – WhatsApp or in-person.
- Stop credit if overdue – Don’t extend until old dues clear.
- Charge interest (optional) – Use our udhar calculator.
